3 Reasons Cutting alcohol for 12 months would make you MORE confident and LESS anxious (even if you think you couldn’t do it)
On January 1st 2021, I began my 12 months of no alcohol.
I feared my ability to go to parties would vanish, my social respect would decrease and I wouldn’t be able to last long.
What resulted was 12 months where I socialised more than ever, made more new friends since my first year in college, and my anxiety/depression bouts vanished.
1. Socialising becomes easier
I remember attending my first barbeque. I had just moved into a co-living house.
I found I could be more relaxed and more authentically myself at dinners, talking to new people, and at parties.
I didn’t say something uncalibrated or rude because of alcohol. 0% of my weekends were spent recovering from the night before.
I was at morning yoga when friends lay in bed hungover.
2. Anxiety/Depression drastically decreases
There are lots of people who complain of depression/anxiety yet don’t address their alcohol binges/drug habits.
Personally — I used to get waves of anxiety and feel low. I never thought it was it was alcohol.
My mood remained consistent — no waves throughout the year.
3. You get to recreate a relationship with alcohol on your terms (habits, cravings, etc won’t dictate the terms)
Now, I savor a bottle of beer while watching a big Champion’s League game.
I have re-established my relationship with alcohol to one that is balanced for the rest of my life.
